Hotel Compliance RFQ

FR Curtain Fabric Requirement Guide for Hotel Projects

“FR curtain” is not a complete specification. A hotel buyer must identify the governing requirement, test method, specimen and conditioning, acceptance evidence, fabric identity, care route, and lot traceability before approving samples or bulk production.

Who Defines the Requirement?

The authority having jurisdiction, project fire consultant, architect, operator standard, insurer, and contract documents may all affect the required evidence. Ask the project team to state the exact standard and edition, test method or classification, intended end use, conditioning, report format, and approval process. A supplier should not substitute a different method because its name sounds similar.

Examples of Standards That May Be Named

Projects may reference methods such as NFPA 701 in the United States or national/European methods and classifications in other markets. These are not interchangeable labels, and applicability must be confirmed by the project authority. For primary information, consult the NFPA 701 standard-development page, the CEN-CENELEC standards portal, and the relevant government or fire authority. UK buyers can also review official fire-safety law and business guidance. Access to full standards may require purchase.

FR Requirement Formula and Example RFQ Wording

Requirement = project location + intended use + authority-specified method/edition + specimen construction + conditioning + required evidence + lot traceability + care labeling.

Example: “Guestroom blackout drapery for [project/location]. Project consultant to confirm required fire-test method and edition. Supplier to identify face fabric, backing/lining, FR route, tested color/construction, care instructions, report scope, and traceability from submitted sample to bulk lot.” This wording asks for evidence without claiming that an unreviewed product complies.

Sampling and Bulk Control

Approve the same construction intended for production. A change in fiber, weight, weave, coating, finish, color chemistry, lining, or care route may require technical review or retesting. Keep approved swatches, report references, purchase-lot data, and production records together in the submittal file.

Limitations and Safety Notice

This guide is procurement information, not legal, fire-engineering, laboratory, or code advice. It does not certify any fabric or finished curtain. Standards and local requirements can change, and the authority having jurisdiction decides acceptance. Obtain written confirmation from the project’s qualified fire consultant or authority and use competent accredited testing where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which FR standard applies to hotel curtains?

It depends on jurisdiction, building use, contract documents, operator rules, and the authority having jurisdiction. Obtain the exact requirement in writing.

Does an “FR” claim prove the offered bulk fabric is accepted?

No. Review the report scope and traceability to the exact offered and delivered construction, finish, color, and lot.

Can cleaning affect performance?

It can. Confirm the FR route, tested conditioning or cleaning cycles, approved care instructions, and any maintenance or retesting requirement.

Prepare a Compliance-Ready RFQ

Attach the project requirement, room/application list, fabric construction, care route, sample needs, report format, and approval contacts. Ask the supplier to identify gaps before quoting.
