Blackout Curtain Side Return And Panel Overlap Guide For Project Buyers
Blackout Curtain Procurement | 06/20/2026
Blackout performance is judged in the finished room, not only on the fabric card. Hotel and project buyers should specify side return, center overlap, track clearance, fullness, and sample-room photo evidence before approving bulk blackout curtains.
Fabric Blackout Rate Is Not the Whole Result
A coated blackout fabric, woven black-yarn fabric, or lined blackout construction may test well as material, but the installed curtain can still leak light at the edges. For buyers sourcing blackout curtains, the RFQ should connect fabric choice with how the curtain will close around the real window.
Specify Side Return Before Quoting
Side return is the distance the curtain turns back toward the wall or covers past the window edge. It helps reduce side light leakage, especially when the track sits forward from the wall. Ask the factory to quote finished width using the actual track width plus planned return, not only the glass opening.
Control the Center Split With Overlap
Pair-draw blackout curtains need enough center overlap so the two panels do not open a bright vertical line after installation. The overlap method depends on track type, hook position, heading style, fullness, and whether the hotel uses a baton, cord, or hand-draw system.
Check Track Clearance and Bottom Drop
Top gaps, bracket projection, sill depth, HVAC position, and floor clearance can all change the room result. For hotel curtain projects, the sample room should show the curtain closed in daylight and at night with interior lights off, then record the top, side, center, and bottom gap conditions.
Ask for Photo Evidence Before Balance Payment
Pre-shipment photos should include finished width, finished drop, side hems, center overlap test, label placement, packing method, carton marks, and a closed-panel light check where practical. This evidence helps buyers release balance payment with fewer surprises at the installation site.
RFQ Checklist for Installed Blackout Control
- Window opening, wall-to-wall width, track width, track projection, and ceiling or wall-mount position.
- Side return allowance, center overlap method, finished drop, floor clearance, and bottom hem weight.
- Blackout route, lining or coating choice, face fabric, color, care route, and FR document needs.
- Heading style, hook position, panel draw direction, fullness ratio, stack space, and hardware assumptions.
- Sample-room photos for closed curtains, side gap, center split, top gap, bottom clearance, and room labels.
- Bulk QC photos for measurements, sewing, shade, labels, carton marks, folding, and packing sequence.
